Dental Exams & Cleanings

What are Cleanings and Exams?

A cleaning and exam is done in our office as part of your preventative dental care. The cleaning, which is done by a licensed hygienist, is helpful in removing hardened plaque and tartar from all areas of the teeth. Along with a thorough cleaning, the gums are checked for any noticeable signs of gingivitis and gum disease. The exam is essential in finding cavities, issues with existing restorations, and even oral cancer.

Why are Cleanings and Exams needed?

A cleaning is necessary for removing hardened tartar and calculus from the teeth. Even with the best at-home hygiene and care, plaque can still build up on certain areas of the teeth, and harden into a white, difficult-to-remove substance. Exams help in checking for signs of decay and other intra-oral problems that may get worse if ignored. Both a cleaning and exam is essential to your overall dental health.

Our one-on-one approach ensures that each of our patients receives the kind care and compassion that they need. By offering a variety of procedures and treatments in one conveniently located office, we are able to cater to each member of your family.

What makes you a candidate for Cleanings and Exams?

Every member of your family should be coming in twice a year for a cleaning and exam. Even if it’s been years since your last dental appointment, it is never too late in life to get started with a proper hygiene routine. We provide quality care that is essential in maintaining your oral health. Our goal is to offer you preventative care treatment in a calm, relaxed environment.

What happens during Cleanings and Exams?

You will first be seen by the hygienist, who takes x-rays as needed for diagnostic purposes. Next, the hygienist works to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth using a variety of dental tools. Once the buildup is removed and the teeth polished, the gums are measured for signs of both gum disease and gingivitis. Dr. Furman then comes into the room and performs an exam. She will check for cavities, oral cancer lesions and issues with restorations so that a personalized treatment plan can be created just for you. Both a cleaning and exam take less than an hour in our office.
